The Bridgewater Canal terminated at the River Mersey at Runcorn. Here the canal had to fall some 88ft (27m.) to reach the lower level of the river. A flight of 10 locks was built, and gave rise to the obvious names of "top locks" and "bottom locks". The following postcards are of these locks, and other canals and landmarks connected to them.
