This view is at the "Bottom locks". The little narrow boats in the foreground are the type of vessel used on the Bridgewater canal, and the larger barge in the background is of the type which could have sailed on the River Mersey. These lower dock basins were used to transfer goods between the river and canal barges.
This view might have been taken in the mid-20th.C. because the concrete bridge appears to be new, and not at all as it would have appeared even in the early part of the 20th.C.
