An old picture, the scene now much changed. The church was deconsecrated some 25 years ago and is now inside a transport complex and inaccessible to the general public. It sits on the banks of the Manchester Ship Canal and is entirely surrounded by water, ie it sits on an uninhabited island and was well known for this fact. The church was built by the Weaver Navigation Company for the benefit of the narrow-boat families who plied the canal. At this point the canal "locked out" into the River Mersey, but later into the MSC when this was constructed.
