Runcorn Transporter Bridge 1918

Runcorn/Widnes Transporter bridge

The first bridge between Runcorn and Widnes which allowed carts etc. to cross the Mersey without getting wet.

This view is from the north side of the bridge taken from Widnes with Runcorn on the opposite bank. Looks as if the "car" is halted awaiting the string of ships to pass before it continues its journey. This is a spoof picture. The image of the early type of plane was superimposed on the picture. Planes were more advanced than this one by 1918?
Still it looks good!
