The first bridge between Runcorn and Widnes which allowed carts etc. to cross the Mersey without getting wet.
This view is from the south side of the bridge taken from Runcorn with Widnes on the opposite bank. At this time there appears to be no railings stopping access to the Manchester Ship Canal! The structures,left centre, which have the barge tied up could be the old Belvedere shipyard.
