Runcorn-Widnes Transporter Bridge 1910

Runcorn/Widnes Transporter bridge

The first bridge between Runcorn and Widnes which allowed carts etc. to cross the Mersey without getting wet.

This view is from the north-west side of the bridge taken from Runcorn with Widnes on the opposite bank. The atmosphere was this smokey because of the number of coal-burning chemical factories.

Dear G. thanks for your card it was torn in 3 places so I had to put it on the fire. I hope you will like this one it is the best I can see. This is a small town it takes about 5 minutes to go over but the weather is too bad to move out, the fireside is the best. I hope you are well I have a cold
Love from both
Yours E.
