This bridge connected Runcorn and Widnes from 1906 to 1961, when the new High Level Arch bridge was opened. Although often referred to as the "Runcorn" transporter, it actually belonged to and was operated by the Widnes Corporation.
This view is from the North (Widnes)side of the bridge with Runcorn on the opposite bank. This is a "doctored" photo. The photo was not taken at night..light beams never look like these, and we do have exactly the same photo in daylight but colour tinted, (see on another web page).
The message reads:-
Will you kindly excuse us until after August holidays. We are expecting visitors from home, Dad and mother may come this weekend - they say they are coming before we go home if weather permits. Thank your mother very much for invit: we shall quite look forward to visiting Garston when we return from Wolverhampton.

Did you have a good time at the wedding?
