- almost certainly commissioned by Norton Priory
- originally painted--St.Christopher's robe was bright red and his hair dark grey. Traces of these colours were found during its cleaning and restoration.
- important locally for travellers using the ferry to cross the River Mersey between Runcorn and Widnes
- owned by the Brooke family from 1545 to 1964, who made Norton their home after purchasing it from King Henry VIII after the Dissolution of the Monasteries
- given by Sir Richard Brooke Bart. to Liverpool Museum in 1964 for safe keeping
- returned to Norton Priory Museum for display to visitors 1981. Was taken back to Liverpool for restoration before being returned again to Norton.
