Off Cooper Street, Runcorn

High Street

At the beginning of the 20th. C. families in Runcorn were being brought up areas like this one. "Closes" and "Courts" were small enclosed courtyards with "houses" (for want of a better word) surrounding them. No running water and no sewerage was the order of the day. No flowers, trees,or grass. All these "courts" went long ago, but one one or two names still survive in older parts of the town. This close may have been "Lowe's Court".
