The first bridge between Runcorn and Widnes which allowed carts etc. to cross the Mersey without getting wet.
This view is from the east side of the bridge taken from Runcorn with Widnes on the opposite bank. The sea wall which divides the Manchester Ship Canal from the River Mersey can be seen quite clearly. At this time there appears to be no railings stopping access to the Manchester Ship Canal! The structures,left centre, which have the barge tied up could be the old Belvedere shipyard. ((This is the same PC, but "uncoloured", as one of the other webpages).
